China's Copper Foil Customs Details for October 2025: Foreign Trade Deficit Narrowed [SMM Analysis]

According to data from the General Administration of Customs, China's copper foil (HS codes: 74101100, 74102190) imports in October 2025 totaled 6,091.18 mt, up 6.49% YoY but down 6.42% MoM. Cumulative copper foil imports from January to October 2025 reached 66,088.52 mt, up 2.58% YoY.

China's copper foil import value in October 2025 was $117.343 million, up 20.33% YoY but down 4.52% MoM. The cumulative import value from January to October 2025 stood at $1,182.6861 million, up 9.70% YoY.

Copper foil exports in October 2025 amounted to 5,377.46 mt, up 33.03% YoY and up 3.91% MoM. Cumulative exports from January to October 2025 reached 43,228.19 mt, up 18.28% YoY.

The export value of copper foil in October 2025 was $69.7496 million, up 41.49% YoY and up 3.32% MoM. Cumulative export value from January to September 2025 was $558.9669 million, up 25.48% YoY.

China's copper foil foreign trade deficit in October 2025 was approximately $47.59 million, narrowing by about $7.8 million MoM from $55.39 million in September.

By trade mode, China imported 4,253.91 mt of copper foil under Ordinary Trade in October 2025; 306.23 mt under Processing Trade with Supplied Materials; 776.02 mt under Processing with Imported Materials; and 755.02 mt under other trade modes.

Copper foil exports in October 2025 under Ordinary Trade were 938.52 mt; 1,484.48 mt under Processing Trade with Supplied Materials; 2,755.66 mt under Processing with Imported Materials; and 198.80 mt under other trade modes.

By country/region, the main sources of China's copper foil imports in October 2025 were Taiwan, China (3,622.68 mt), Malaysia (868.18 mt), and Japan (443.64 mt).

The main destinations for China's copper foil exports in October 2025 were Thailand (1,536.49 mt), Egypt (593.98 mt), and South Korea (592.57 mt).

China's copper clad laminate (CCL) (HS code: 74102110) imports in October 2025 were 2,718.09 mt, up 19.09% YoY but down 30.22% MoM. Cumulative CCL imports from January to October 2025 reached 33,052.54 mt, up 0.92% YoY.

CCL exports in October 2025 totaled 7,605.45 mt, up 2.04% YoY and up 0.34% MoM. Cumulative exports from January to October 2025 were 75,052.30 mt, down 5.15% YoY.

In October, China's copper foil imports declined MoM while exports steadily increased, leading to a narrowed foreign trade deficit, reflecting the country's continuous improvement in independent R&D and production capabilities for copper foil and reduced reliance on high-end imports. The rise in copper foil exports to high levels this year also benefited from stable capacity release by domestic copper foil enterprises and active expansion in overseas markets. According to SMM data, the operating rate of Chinese copper foil enterprises in October was 84.22%, up 8.61 percentage points YoY, effectively meeting growing overseas demand.
